Good Evening Stamper Friends,
Today was a out of the house day and back to work! Then of course it was back home and a nice little nap!
Yesterday I stopped by a friends house to see her, I use to clean for her for many years and watched her children grow up. Her Husband use to wear these flannel shirts and part of my job was to iron these shirts for her. I know, iron flannel shirts! Well, Mike had a million flannel shirts and I use to complain every week when I had to iron those darn things. Unfortunately, last year Mike passed away from Lung Cancer leaving his wife, 2 grown children and 2 granddaughters. Dianne wanted to do something so they all could remember Mike! Dianne took all (million) of Mike's shirts to this couple that made these BEAUTIFUL creations using Mike's flannel shirts and I just had to share them with you. As I look over all of these I remember ironing each and everyone one of those D—- shirts (Mike is laughing at me as I print this)
Here is my Christmas gift from Dianne:
Yes, this bear was made from the shirts as well,
This one is for one of the granddaughters
I think Dianne said they made like 6 or 7 quilts, I can't remember how many bears, a lap quilt and 2 or 3 purses. They used every inch of these shirts.
Yes, they even made purses, they used the pockets from the shirts for the pockets and all the buttons are from the shirts.
The couple that made all of these are a retired couple that spend lots of time together quilting! Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! (RIP Mike)
Tonight I was looking on the Stampin Connection and found this adorable little box using the Petal Cone Die. So of course I had to create one! (NO Ronda I will NOT make these for pillow gifts for your scrapbook retreat!, SORRY Sandi) They where a little time consuming but they are cute:
Well, it's time to clean up my mess and find something else to do, it's only 11:05 way to early to go to bed! Thanks for stopping by and see you all tomorrow!
Tamie
Tamie, those quilts are beautiful. I am a quilter and would love to have made a quilt with flannel. What a loving memory for Mike’s family. I love your box also. I think I know how you did it so will see if I can case it correctly. TFS
Oh Tamie, you brought on my tears this morning. I cannot think of anything more beautiful than to have a quilt or bear to snuggle up with than something your dad used to wear. I would have asked (and maybe they did) that the seamstress did not wash the material so it would always have his scent. I am way beyond being touched by this — thank you for sharing this loving story.
And Tamie, your take on the Petal Cone box is gorgeous. I had already seen the original box on somebody’s blog and immediately knew I was going to make one too (just haven’t gotten my die yet, but added it to my order after seeing this box — for real). I wouldn’t take any bets tho on whether you will be making these for pillow treats (your trake record with saying “no” to Ronda is not all that good you know!!). If you do, I want mine to look “exactly” like yours!!
If you don’t, I know one of the classes will include this box for sure!!
Thank you in advance and big hugs, Sandi
Oops, I clicked to fast! It should be “track” record. I really do know how to spell — really!!
Thanks a lot Tamie, looks like I will be making this box for my big shot class at the retreat. If not, Sandi will be dissappointed!
